Power Universe is a franchise of television series produced by rapper 50 Cent.
Power follows James St. Patrick, also known by his criminal alias Ghost, a highly intelligent and successful night club owner, as he attempts to leave behind his life as a street hustler in pursuit of a life of legitimacy.
Power Book IV: Force focuses on Ghost's best friend Tommy Egan, as he leaves New York City to start a new hustle in Chicago, Illinois.
Who are the Candidates?[]
James St. Patrick, aka Ghost, is one of the main protagonists of the Power Universe, being the main protagonist of Power and the posthumous overarching protagonist of Power Book II: Ghost. He is portrayed by Omari Hendrick.
What Makes Him a Seinen Hero?[]
- Anti-Heroic: Ghost has saved his son Tariq from Kanan and Jukebox when Tariq gets kidnapped by them.
- Apathetic: Ghost rarely feels remorseful about killing his enemies.
- Stoic: Ghost usually remains in control of his emotions regardless of the situations.
- Insightful: Ghost consistently lectures Tariq about the dangers of the street life despite it being null and void for the latter due to being corrupted by Kanan's influence.
- Sophisicated/Mature: In contrast to Tommy who is impulsive, violent and temperamental, James approaches to situations in a diplomatic manner.
- Strong Sense of Willpower: Regardless of his hardships and failures, Ghost refuses to give up on creating a better life for himself and his family.
- Has Killer Instinct: Given that he has been a drug dealer ever since he was a teenager, Ghost never hesitates to kill his enemies.
- Lustful: After reuniting with his high school girlfriend Angela Valdez, Ghost begins to have relations with her, cheating on his wife Tasha in the process.
- Tragic Past: Sometime after he and Tommy were taken under Kanan's guidance as teenage street hustlers, Ghost's father was killed by a gang of drug dealers, leading to Ghost wanting to leave the street life after inheriting his father's night club as an adult.
- Vengeful: Ghost takes revenge on those who tried to kill or hurt his loved ones.
Tommy Egan is one of the main protagonists of the Power Universe, being the deuteragonist of Power, a minor character in Power Book II: Ghost and the main protagonist of Power Book IV: Force. He is portrayed by Joseph Sikora.
What Makes Him a Seinen Hero?[]
- Anti-Heroic: Tommy saves his long-lost nephew D-Mac by taking him to the hospital when the latter gets shot by a rival gang.
- Cynical: Tommy is rather distrustful of Angela and thinks she is taking advantage of Ghost's feelings for her.
- Apathetic: Unless it involves someone he cares about, Tommy doesn't care about the lives he took.
- Insightful: Tommy advises Tariq to choose to live as either a civilian or a gangster because living as both wouldn't work.
- Realistic: Tommy doesn't care about living life as a civilian and is content with being a gangster.
- Strong Sense of Willpower: Despite losing his share of loved ones as a result of the life he chose, Tommy manages to stand tall and move forward.
- Has Anger Issues: Tommy is very prone to angry outbursts and violence.
- Has Killer Instinct: Given his lifestyle as a gangster, Tommy has no issues with murdering his enemies.
- Has Bloodlust: Unlike Ghost, Tommy occasionally takes pleasure in torturing his enemies.
- Vengeful: Tommy wants to seek revenge on Ghost for killing LaKeisha, not knowing it was actually Tasha who did it. This led to the point of wanting to kill Ghost, only to kill Angela when she attempts to save him.
Verdict?[]
Yes. In a franchise centering around gangsters, drug-dealers, corrupt politicians and criminals in general, it doesn't get any more Seinen than this.
