Despicable Me is an animated series of movies by Illumination. It centers on a supervillain named Felonious Gru who redeems himself after adopting three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.
Who is he?[]
Dr. Nefario is a major character of the franchise. He is an elderly scientist who serves as Gru's right-hand man.
What makes him a Seinen Hero?[]
Basic Traits[]
- Heroic/Anti-Heroic: He has done a number of admirable deeds, including telling young Gru to keep walking upon stealing the Zodiac Stone from the Vicious 6, going to warn Gru when the moon was going to regrow pretty fast, helping Gru save the girls from Vector, defecting back to Gru's side from El Macho upon seeing El Macho kidnap Lucy Wilde, saving the girls from a mutated Kevin and letting them help him cure all the mutated minions, defeating El Macho with the Fart Gun, and reverting Gru Jr. back to normal after Maxime Le Mal turned him into a cockroach monster.
- Insightful: As an elderly scientist, he offers helpful advice to Gru and is able to analyze situations and propose clever solutions for them.
- Sophisticated/Mature: He deeply respects Gru and is loyal to him, and does not like to be unproductive, as he has constantly been seen working on projects to aid in Gru's schemes.
- Realistic: Despite initially viewing the girls as a distraction and even sending them back to the abusive Miss Hattie, he comes to genuinely care for them and accept them in Gru's life.
- Strong Sense of Willpower: He never gives up in accomplishing his goals, such as helping Gru with stealing the moon and later rescuing the girls from Vector, and betraying El Macho and working with Gru and the girls to cure all of the Evil Minions.
- Pragmatic: He only turned against El Macho due to wanting to keep his family safe rather than standards against El Macho's crimes.
- Morally Ambiguous: He starts out as a villain helping Gru and becomes a hero after Gru's redemption, and upon being bored with heroism and missing being evil goes to work for El Macho in his destructive plan to take over the world but redeems himself and returns to Gru's side upon seeing El Macho kidnap Lucy, and finally abandons villainy for good and helps reverse Gru Jr.'s cockroach mutation.

- Has Trust Issues: He often doubts Gru's abilities and motives despite being fiercely loyal to him.
- Vengeful: He betrays El Macho when the latter threatens the lives of Gru's family, and goes on to help Gru and the girls revert all of the Evil Minions back to normal and stop Macho from taking over the world.
- Has an Outfit with Black/Red/Blue: He wears black gloves and boots as part of his attire. When he was younger, he wore an outfit with red as one of the colors.
