What's the work?
Moriarty the Patriot is a Japanese mystery anime/manga created by Ryosuke Takeuchi which focuses on Sherlock's nemesis, William James Moriarty, and portrays him in a more heroic light.
Who are they?
Sherlock Holmes is a deuteragonist of the manga who serves as an opposing rival and nemesis to the protagonist, William James Moriarty.
What makes them a seinen hero?
- Anti-Heroic: Sherlock has exposed the crimes and atrocities of the corrupt English nobility, took down Charles Augustus Milverton and served as a catalyst for the redemption of William, the Lord of Crime but normally commits these heroics as a way to find an enticing mystery to solve and uses questionable methods to do so.
- Cynical: Sherlock mistrusted the intentions of John Watson's fiance when he believed she acted suspiciously and kept an eye on her.
- Apathetic: Sherlock wasn't particularly concerned when witnessing or hearing about the various murders done in the show.
- Insightful: Sherlock is a detective who is incredibly capable of figuring out intentions and methods based on even the smallest of clues.
- Realistic: Sherlock understands the flaws of the classist and legal system which encourages him to break the law as a means for his heroics.
- Strong Sense of Willpower: Despite the setbacks he faced, Sherlock won't stop at finding the answers to his mysteries.
- Killer Instinct: Sherlock murdered Milverton once he had the villain outplated.
- Reckless: Sherlock was willing to jump to his death in order to try and stop William from commiting suicide and killed Milverton despite knowing that it could end his investigation on the lord of crime.
- Vengeful: Killed Milverton in response to all the people he blackmailed and threatening John's marriage.
Verdict
Yes. While I am proposing him as a Shonen Hero, I believe he also has enough attributes of the Seinen Hero archetype to qualify.
