Ragna the Bloodedge

Ragna the Bloodedge is the main protagonist of the BlazBlue series, specifically its mainline C-Series; which started from Calamity Trigger all the way to Central Fiction.

He is an SS-Class Rebel that has an extraordinary large bounty on his head that’s well in the trillions all because of the fact he rebelled against the Novus Orbis Librarium (N.O.L. for short) and is the older brother of Jin Kisaragi and Saya. He is also known as the Grim Reaper, in which he earned this nickname after he easily massacred over 300 armed officers when he raided one of the NOL’s bases.

He is voiced by Tomokazu Sugita in the Original Japanese Dub and Patrick Seitz in the English Dub.

What Makes Him a Seinen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Anti-Heroic: Ragna is shown to be capable of saving lives and defeating his enemies for the greater good, as he saved Noel Vermillion from being killed by Nu-13 and even fought on her behalf, despite her being an enemy, and even freed Noel from her dark form; Mu-12, as means to return her to the side of good. At first, Ragna was solely motivated by revenge, as he wanted to destroy the NOL and Terumi as means to find Saya before he later resolved to give up focusing on revenge and focus on protecting those dear to him.
  • Strong Sense of Willpower: Even when he’s clearly outmatched, Ragna has never given up in his fights at all, a trait that many characters either admire or hate.
  • Stoical: Ragna is anti-social around others he doesn’t know about, as he never expresses his emotions when around these specific people aside from expressing anger.
  • Cynical: Ragna is very skeptical of the intentions of others, as he thinks that they only fulfill their goals for themselves.
  • Insightful: Ragna has reflected on many of his experiences during the series, as he no longer focused on revenge and is only focused on protecting those he cares about, and even realized that the Azure Grimoire’s power is to “steal” instead of “protect”, which made him want to use his own strength alongside the Azure Grimoire.
  • Tragic Past: Ragna, alongside his younger siblings; Jin Kisaragi and Saya, were all lab rats at a very young age before they were saved by Jubei of the Six Heroes. Sometime after, Ragna was left for dead after Jin and Terumi cut off his right arm and was later bitten by Rachel Alucard in order to save his life.
  • Vengeful: Ragna immediately gets infuriated whenever he sees Yūki Terumi, since he practically destroyed his life by possessing his younger brother Jin and making him cut off his right arm.
  • Has Anger Issues: Ragna tends to be incredibly rude towards anyone he encounters and has never missed a chance to be very vulgar as much as possible.
  • Reckless: Ragna has a tendency of putting his life in danger and getting injuries in the process, but there’s times where being reckless had worked out for him, as he was met with an army of over 300 armed officers, awaiting him on the staircase connected to the central hall in one of the NOL bases he raided, and easily massacred each and every soldier without much of a struggle from the opposition.
  • Has Killer Instinct: Ragna is lethal to his foes, as he has massacred over 300 armed officers when he raided one of the NOL’s bases and he even accepted the fact that he took a lot of lives as the “Grim Reaper”.
