Hello, Gru.
~ Poppy revealing her knowledge of Gru’s identity.

Poppy Prescott is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Gru Jr.) of Illumination's 15th film, Despicable Me 4, the sixth installment in the Despicable Me film series.

Poppy Prescott is a teenage girl who teams up with Felonious Gru to steal Lenny the Honey Badger, the mascot from a villainous school, titled "Lycée Pas Bon," in order to be attended into, as well as to protect from Poppy Prescott's arch-nemesis, Principal Übelschlecht, who is known for abusing Lenny and making the latter into a once vicious predator. While Poppy Prescott was introduced as a villainous character, she immediately redeemed herself after retrieving Lenny the Honey Badger from Principal Übelschlecht, and became close friends with Gru's three daughters, and assisted Gru in defeating Maxime Le Mal to retrieve his son, Gru Junior, back from Maxime's clutches.

She is voiced by Joey King.

What Makes Her a Seinen Hero?[]

  • Heroic/Anti-Heroic: While initially introduced as a villainous character, Poppy redeems herself by stealing Lenny the Honey Badger from Principal Übelschlecht, which indirectly leads to the principal's arrest and peace finally being brought upon Lycee Pas Bon; and helps Gru with rescuing his son Gru Jr. from Maxime Le Mal.
  • Cynical: When Gru initially doesn't want to aid her in a heist, she threatens to expose his true identity, which shows that she may suspect that he is solely out for himself as this threat successfully coerces him into complying with her demands.
  • Apathetic: She goes as far as to blackmail and intimidate Gru into following her command, even threatening to expose his identity while he is hiding from Maxime Le Mal; and is also portrayed as a shameless criminal who fully intends to be a supervillain prior to her redemption when Gru successfully follows her orders.
  • Insightful: While initially introduced as an intimidating supervillain who blackmailed Gru into performing her bidding, she eventually redeems herself into an honorable and affable girl when Gru becomes successful in following her commands, showing her affability towards both Gru and his children.
  • Sophisticated/Mature: Despite firmly believing that she was "born to be bad", blackmailing Gru into following her commands and ultimately being shown to be completely experienced during the heist as she relies entirely on Gru to get by, she shows her honorable side when she chooses to keep Gru's identity a secret after their heist, redeeming herself in the process. She also reconsiders her once dismissive nature towards Margo Gru, deciding to come over and hang out with Margo, Edith, Agnes, and Gru Jr. to compensate for that, showing her affable side. She is also the only one smart enough to figure out that "Chet Cunningham" is actually Felonious Gru.
  • Strong Sense of Willpower: She is determined to achieve her goal of getting into Lyce Pas Bon, and is able to think on her feet by coming up with the ideas to use her hair clip to pick a lock and steal Principal Übelschlecht's flying car to escape during the heist for Lenny the Honey Badger, and while she had a cowardly moment where she tried to stand up to Lenny but started running away when he charges at her, she subverts her cowardice by helping Gru rescue Gru Jr. from the much more dangerous Maxime Le Mal.
  • Pragmatic: She blackmails Gru into helping her steal Lenny just so she can get into a school for supervillains.
  • Morally Ambiguous: She blackmailed Gru into helping her steal Lenny the Honey Badger, also stealing Principal Übelschlecht's flying car in the process, though she would then immediately redeem herself and help Gru rescue his son from Maxime not long afterward. It is later revealed that she accomplished her goal of getting into the villain school, and because of this it is very likely she will become a supervillain in the future.
  • Reckless: She plans the heist to steal Lenny from Lyce Pas Bon, which resulted in her and Gru getting chased by Principal Übelschlecht in a deadly chase in which they managed to narrowly escape, and she and Gru later use the flying car to chase after Maxime Le Mal in the sky, with her ultimately crash landing after getting Gru onto Maxime's ship.
  • Is an Edgelord: When she is first introduced in the film, she makes a few silent glances at Gru that hint at her knowing his true identity, and days later she sneaks into his yard and menacingly reveals her knowledge of who he is.
