~ Johnny Joestar in his opening monologue |
Johnny Joestar is the main protagonist of Steel Ball Run, the seventh part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, and the first one to be set in a different universe from the previous six parts.
What Makes Him a Seinen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Anti-Heroic: He defeats Funny Valentine, putting an end to his catastrophic plan of wanting to turn the United States into an utopia by turning the rest of the world into a hellhole, and was also willing to give away his corpse parts to save Gyro's life.
- Apathetic: Johnny is typically very apathetic towards collateral damage and the safety of others. He doesn't actually care if his race rivals are down, and during his fight against Alternate World Diego, Diego tries to use his own fangirls as a human shield thinking Johnny wouldn't shoot, only for him to shoot anyway.
- Stoical: The most stoic out of any JoJo protagonist, he's typically frowning in every pannel he's in, and only smiles twice (the least times out of any JoJo, by a quite long margin) through the entire part.
- Insightful: As the character narrator of Steel Ball Run, he shows to be quite reflexive and introspective, with his introduction opening with a monologue by him.
- Pessimistic: Johnny suffers from depression and self-esteem issues due to his past, and as a result he holds a very low opinion about himself and always expects the worst out of everything.
- Has Killer Instinct: Notably shows absolutely no hesitation in killing someone, this is something Gyro points out, as even he who's actually an executioner isn't as cold as Johnny and can't take a life as easily as him.
- Lustful: During his younger days, he was pretty much a womanizer, although this died down after the incident that left him paraplegic.
- Tragic Past: He lived in his brother's shadows for most of his childhood and blames himself for his death. His relationship with his father is also very abusive and strained (with him even telling Johnny he should've died instead of his brother), and when things were starting to look brighter for him after finding some success in horse racing, he gets shot in his spine which leaves him paraplegic and unable to compete anymore.
- Has Trust Issues: Thanks to his self-esteem issues, he has a hard time connecting with people.
