Itachi Uchiha is an anti-heroic/villainous major antagonist in Naruto.
He was voiced by Hideo Ishikawa in Japanese and Crispin Freeman in English.
What Makes Him a Seinen Hero?[]
- Anti-Heroic: Despite being one of the main antagonists of the stories, Itachi ultimately performs much of his actions out of loyalty toward the Leaf, and he also had done some good deeds across the series (such as forcing Kabuto to undo the Edo Tensei).
- Apathetic: Itachi generally distances himself from people, save for his partner Kisame, as a strategy to fully understand people.
- Stoical: He rarely reveals his true emotions toward others, and much of the emotion he does reveal (such as his breakdown toward Sasuke) are mainly acts.
- Insightful: Itachi is a very insightful person who is never arrogant about his abilities or underestimates his opponents and often analyzes situations thoroughly before making conclusions. In addition, whenever his decision and plans fail (such as when he saw Sasuke change his target of vengeance to the village), he often recognizes its errors and makes changes based on that.
- Mature: Itachi is 100% in charge of his emotions, and isn't swayed by impulse at all.
- Strong Sense of Willpower: Itachi possesses an immense amount of resolve, as shown by how he fought a terminal illness just so that Sasuke can get his vengeance on him.
- Has Killer Instinct: While a pacifist at heart, as well as preferring genjutsu over swords and ninjutsu in combat, Itachi never flinches at killing people due to his past as an Anbu member, and can get brutal toward people he doesn't respect, as shown by how he made Yashiro's death as miserable as possible for pushing the coup, and later killed a defenseless Root member because he poisoned Shisui.
- Reckless: Although he is very precise in planning and executing, Itachi shows a reckless side when it comes to training, mostly using life-threatening methods.
- Tragic Past: Itachi was born into the wake of the Third Shinobi World War, and the casualties and deaths he saw there led to him developing his pacifistic ideal. Later on, he witnessed his best friend Shisui's suicide, after his eye, which he wanted to use to end the conflict between the Leaf and the Uchiha, was stolen by Danzo Shimura, who would then order him to massacre his entire clan, which would give him immense trauma and cause him to hate himself for doing it.
- Hard-Boiled: After killing his clan, Itachi would begin to develop his stoic and emotionless side.
