“ | SHOTOOOOOOO!!! | „ |
~ Endeavor's catchphrase. |
“ | That's right, you'll never be All Might, or Deku. Because I've only ever done battle with the weakness within. So don't even dwell... on the notion of some grand rebirth. Go on, keep cursing the true enemy - that weakness. That's... the only thing... that has kept you alive. | „ |
~ Endeavor speaking to himself. |
“ | Endeavor: Toya... my son... I apologize. I should have gone... to Sekoto Peak. Dabi: I hate you, Dad. I hate the whole family. You're to blame... Your fault... Endeavor: That's it... I deserve this. Keep going. Rei, I'm sorry for breaking you down. Fuyumi, I'm sorry for making you hold our family together. Natsuo, I'm sorry I neglected you, all these years... And Shoto... I'm sorry. For everything... |

~ Endeavor's heroic breakdown after Dabi's defeat, apologizing to his wife and children for everything he put them through. |
Enji Todoroki, better known by his superhero name Endeavor, is a major protagonist in My Hero Academia.
He is a retired Pro-Hero, the leader of the Endeavor Agency, the husband of Rei Todoroki and the father of Shoto, Fuyumi, Natsuo and Toya Todoroki. Originally an abusive father and husband unlike the aggressive jerk Katsuki Bakugo who drove his wife insane and made Dabi the villain he is now, he eventually began to feel a lot of regret for his horrid actions and soon decided to redeem himself via apologizing to his family for what he put them through and aspiring to be a charismatic role model for people to look up to, only to fail due to Dabi exposing his past.
He is voiced by Tetsu Inada in Japanese and Patrick Seitz in English.
What Makes Him a Seinen Hero?[]
- Heroic/Anti-Heroic: Despite his flaws, he has done numerous heroic acts, such as becoming a hero to prevent people from dying the way his father did, helping defeat Kuin Hachisuika, got civilians to a safe place while fighting Bee Pop, saving Naruhata from bombers, assisting Shoto in stopping Stain, proved that Izuku wasn't a mass murderer, leading the heroes during the Paranormal Liberation War, nearly sacrificing himself to save a city from a Trigger Bomb, taking down NPE villain Gigantomachia, aiding the heroes in saving the world from Flect Turn and personally fighting All For One.
- Cynical: Back in his villainous days, he didn't trust his children and brushed them off as "failures".
- Insightful: He easily fulfils this part of the criteria; He took the time to reflect on his abuse towards his wife and kids and talked to All Might about how he felt, and upon being encouraged, he changed for the better and decided to atone for his family cruelty.
- Sophisticated/Mature: He upholds a serious demeanor most of the time.
- Pessimistic: He doubts he'll be forgiven for what he did, which may be true, but it also qualifies as pessimism.
- Realistic: He thinks that abusing his family would shape them up for the harsh reality of the world.
- Strong Sense of Willpower: He displayed willpower when trying to surpass All Might as the best hero in the world and helping his son Shoto stop Dabi from instigating his suicide attack that would blow up hundreds/thousands of people.
- Pragmatic: Despite knowing domestic abuse is morally wrong, he still resorted to it in order to shape his children into Pro-Heroes like him.
- Morally Ambiguous: On one hand, his treatment of Shoto when the latter was young made him who he is today, but on the other hand, his abuse traumatized his wife (who went insane and threw scalding tea at Shoto, giving him a permanent eye scar) and his eldest son Toya (who desperately wanted his father's attention and became a terrorist upon failing to get it).
- Has Anger Issues: He doesn't handle his anger in constructive ways, no matter how good he eventually became.
- Has Killer Instinct: He doesn't mind incinerating his enemies (i.e. burning them alive).
- Has Bloodlust: He took pleasure in battling AFO himself.
- Reckless: He almost got blown up while trying to save a city.
- Tragic Past: He was pushed into villainy due to seeing his father die while trying to save a girl, and even after he redeemed himself, he was disowned by his son Natsuo.
- Has an Outfit with Black/Red/Blue: His outfit is mostly royal blue.
- Is an Edgelord: He is this to an extent, given Dabi shows nothing but fear in his presence.
