Kaydee Lawson, also known as Caine, is the main protagonist of Menace II Society. He was portrayed by Tyrin Turner.

What Makes Him a Seinen Hero?[]

  • Anti-Heroic: Caine sacrifices himself to save Anthony from a drive-by shooting.
  • Cynical: Caine is rather distrustful of anyone who betrays him.
  • Insightful: Caine reflects on his life after being convinced by Ronnie to move with her from Watts, California to Atlanta, Georgia, realizing that he values her and Anthony as well as coming to terms that the street life isn't as glamorous as he thought it is.
  • Pessimistic: Caine views surviving a beating from policemen as a bad thing.
  • Realistic: Caine doesn't want to live by his grandparents' religious beliefs and is quick to accept the way things are.
  • Nihilistic: When being asked by his grandfather whether he cares if he lives or dies, Caine says that he doesn't know, showing that he doesn't know how to value his own life.
  • Pragmatic: Caine kills his cousin's killers to avenge his death.
  • Morally Ambiguous: Caine sells drugs to provide for Ronnie and Anthony.
  • Has Killer Instinct: Caine didn't hesitate to kill his cousins' killers.
  • Lustful: Caine has slept with two women, Ilena and Ronnie.
  • Vengeful: Alongside his best friend O-Dog, Caine sets out to seek revenge against two gangsters for killing his cousin Harold in front of him.
  • Tragic Past: Caine grew up being exposed to his parents' criminal lifestyle from a young age, with his father being a murderous drug-dealer and his mother being a cocaine addict. At age 5, Caine witnessed his father murdering a friend over money. Even after his parents died very early into his life, their toxic influence was what led to Caine adopting a lifestyle as a street hustler to the point where his grandparents could never guide him into the right direction.
  • Black Hair: Being an African-American, Caine's hair is naturally black.
  • Wears Blue: The movie posters feature Caine wearing a blue T-shirt.
